Unlike regular regular loose leaf teas, herbal teas do not come from the Camellia sinensis plant, and are not actually a 'tea', but what is known as a tisane. To make it easier to reference and understand, most people have adopted calling them herbal teas instead.

The world of herbal teas is so exciting and vast, that we will cover many aspects and fun information on our blog, but for our herbal tea 101, we will cover a few basics. Like how herbal loose leaf tea hold such amazing health benefits that you can't find anywhere else. Many herbal teas such as chamomile and mint date back to ancient Greece and Rome for their healing properties. And we can't even touch on the infusions of roots, botanicals and more that have been used for centuries for wellness healing!

Most herbal teas are caffeine free, with the exception of one, which is Yerba Mate, known for a natural source of caffeine (great substitute for coffee)!

The types of herbal teas include (along with a few examples that we use quite often in our tea blends):

Floral

Chamomile, Rose, Hibiscus and Lavender. 

Leaf

Rooibos, Honeybush, Mint, Yerba Mate.

Root/Bark

Ginger, Turmeric, Cinnamon, Licorice.

Fruit & Seeds

Rosehips, Fennel, Dried fruits, Cardamom. 

Tips on making the perfect cup of herbal tea:

• Since there are so many wonderful types of herbal teas to choose from (chamomile, Rooibos, wellness blends, fruit teas), many of them have varying water temperature and steep time. It is best to reference the back of your tea package/website product page for exact directions for each blend.
